Our Curriculum

The Governors have agreed a school mission statement, curriculum aims and objectives which provide a clear vision for the school.

The aim of the curriculum is to ensure every child fulfils his or her optimum potential and achieves the highest standards in all subject areas. All children are individuals and our teaching acknowledges this by including whole class; small group; individual and independent study.

We believe that the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum provides children with both knowledge and key skills for life. It also provides the important moral, religious and aesthetic attitudes which enable children to develop positive values and attitudes which will encourage them to become increasingly independent and to readily contribute to the society in which we live.

Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum framework, which includes:

Core Subjects BlankSpace Foundation Subjects

Literacy/English

Numeracy/Mathematics

Information Communication Technology

Science

Religious Education

History

Geography

Design Technology

Arts

Music

Physical Education

Personal, Social and Health Education

French

Where appropriate, we will combine the teaching of subject areas together, in order to deliver a more meaningful curriculum experience. We firmly believe that whole understanding and high standards are more likely to be achieved where there is a clear commitment to:

  • detailed curriculum planning with an appropriate emphasis placed upon practical activities.
  • a detailed monitoring and assessment strategy in place.

  • high expectations and appropriate targets set for each child.

  • a positive underpinning ethos which encourages strong relationships, between staff, parents and the child.
